The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is the most storied set of train carriages in the world. It promises to take you not just across Europe, but to transport you back in time. With polished wood, sumptuous upholstery, antique fixtures, and the finest French cuisine, this train epitomises the glamour and elegance of the Golden Age of travel.
For Conde Nast Traveler Magazine’s special edition featuring destinations serviced by the Orient Express, I created a custom illustration in the glamorous style of vintage travel posters. This technique conjures a sense of the train’s rich history, while telling a story of the dreamlike experience of traveling to exotic destinations in penultimate luxury. I added spot varnish treatment to heighten the ephemeral and opulent feel of the illustration, as well as to draw the attention of passersby to the newstand with its eyecatching sheen.
