COVER ILLUSTRATION/
GROWLER MAGAZINE
The Growler is a print and online resource for those interested in fresh perspectives on the world of craft beer, food, spirits, arts, the outdoors, makers, and more. The client needed illustration for a feature article about Robert “Fish” Jones.
Mr. Jones was the first entrepeneur to ship fresh seafood from the East Coast to Minneapolis by refrigerated rail car. He started a small fish market downtown in 1878, which became an overnight success, in part due to his unorthodox marketing methods, which included a live bear outside his shop.
I created this ink illustration to capture, with vibrant circus-like colors, the fantastic, larger-than-life personality of the feature article subject, and his flamboyant lifestyle.
